Duttweiler Award for Jimmy Wales

At the 10th anniversary of the Online encyclopaedia Wikipedia its founder Jimmy Wales was selected for the recent award of the Gottlieb-Duttweiler-Institute (GDI). The award ceremony was convened on Wednesday 26 January 2011 in Zurich Rüschlikon.

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales was honoured for his most successful idea “to create a worldwide network of knowledge just within a decade”. The Web portal became a symbol for the democratization of knowledge. In the context of the European Third Age Online project (TAO) it is intended to make elderly people familiar with Wikipedia and to include them as contributors. Among the TAO community partners the Wikimedia chapters from Germany and Switzerland play an active role by a closer cooperation with senior communities. One of the TAO key goals is eInclusion and Online empowerment of the generation 50 plus.
